Mr. Tarun Khanna is a practicing Advocate with over 13 years of professional experience across civil, criminal, commercial, corporate, and arbitration laws. He completed his integrated B.A., LL.B., in the year, 2013 and was subsequently enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi. He has also successfully completed the Executive Programme of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), giving him a strong foundation in corporate and commercial laws.

Professional Experience

In June 2015, Mr. Khanna was empanelled with the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee as a Jail Visiting Advocate. In recognition of his dedicated service and outstanding performance, he was re-appointed on 29 January 2018 for a further term of three years.

Notable Reported Cases

State (GNCT of Delhi) v. Raman Kumar

Criminal Appeal No. 1113/2016 – Delhi High Court

Mr. Khanna successfully defended the acquittal of the accused in a POCSO matter. The High Court upheld the Trial Court’s judgment, observing that the accused had been arrested after more than one month and that the prosecutrix’s statement under Section 164 Cr.P.C. was recorded only after the arrest, with no prior allegation of sexual assault. Consequently, the State’s appeal was dismissed.

Anil Kumar Singh v. State (GNCT of Delhi)

Criminal Revision Petition No. 12/2016 – Delhi High Court

Mr. Khanna secured the acquittal of the petitioner under Sections 304-A and 337 IPC. The High Court held that where three eyewitnesses failed to identify the petitioner as the driver of the offending vehicle, conviction could not be sustained merely on the statement of the vehicle owner. The judgments of the Trial Court and Appellate Court were set aside, and the fine deposited by the petitioner was directed to be refunded.

Naim Ali v. State (GNCT of Delhi)

Criminal Appeal No. 1628/2014 – Delhi High Court

Mr. Khanna successfully argued for alteration of the conviction from Section 307 IPC to Section 324 IPC, resulting in reduction of the sentence from four years to two and a half years.

Rafiq Ahmad & Others v. Government of NCT of Delhi & Others

W.P.(C) No. 4113/2017 – Delhi High Court

Representing the owners of six privately owned domesticated elephants, Mr. Khanna challenged notices issued by the Wildlife Department directing surrender of the animals. The High Court directed the Chief Wildlife Warden to grant the petitioners an adequate opportunity of hearing before taking any decision and set aside the impugned notice.
